In 2013 I was reading a book called ‘1000 Promise Words’ for my daily devotion and I came across this verse in Isaiah 66:13, ”As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem ”. I was so delighted to read about this verse, as what more can we ask from God when he promises that he will comfort us like our mother. As I was continuing my reading, I came across another verse in Isaiah 49:15. It tells “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! ”.
This verse made me think a little bit, because I have never seen any mother being so cruel to their own child. I told, “Lord I haven’t seen any mother being so cruel by not looking after their baby, nor I haven’t seen a mother not supporting their kids. Even if the kids make a mistake, the mother will still support the kids. Could you please explain this Lord?
Few weeks passed; I was doing a day shift at work. At around 1:30pm one of my colleagues came to work after a holiday. There were about 4 to 5 people around in the ICU that day, we greeted and welcomed her, and we all asked her how her holiday was etc. It was in the middle of the ICU she did not care at where she was standing, and at an instant when we asked her about this she was in tears and she started to cry there itself. We thought that someone in her family was not well or passed away, then after some time she started to speak to us.
She said that she was one of 3 girls for their parents, her mother used to suffer with severe asthma attacks, so all three girls used to never let her mum do any work at home. The colleague being the elder daughter used to cook the food, clean the house before going to school and after coming back from school, she used to do all the household jobs. They all loved their mum so much that they did not feel any pain or hardship while doing these jobs.
When she came home for the holidays after finishing her second year in nursing, to her surprise she saw a 12-year-old boy in their house that her parents have adopted. She thought that since her parents had three girls, it was ok for them to adopt a boy and now she had a younger brother, and all was going well.
But when she went this time for a holiday, her parents behaved differently as they were saying, ‘that all the three girls loved them just for their money and the wealth they had, and that her younger brother is only going to look after them when they get old.
So, the parents decided to give all their money, land, and house to their adopted son. She felt very sad that her mother was not able to understand her love, and that she did not care about her mother’s wealth. The daughter was really hurt as her mother never took care of her and her siblings when they were young as the girls loved their mother, with not wanting anything but her love in return. As the mother abandoned her daughters for her adopted son. It was very hard for any of us to console her at the time, I just told her, “Do not worry we’ll keep you in our prayers and things will change”.
I went home and prayed, “How true is your words O Lord, now I understood why you wrote Isaiah 49:15 which reads “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!”.
Dear children of God, when we look at David’s life, he was ignored by his parents (1 Samuel 16:11). David was kept as low profile by his brothers (1 Samuel 17:28).David was mocked and insulted by his wife (2 Samuel 6:20).Even though David did a lot of good deeds to Saul, Saul kept pursuing David to kill him of jealousy. David was chased by his own son Absalom (2 Samuel 15:14).
Throughout his life David faced a lot of problems and betrayals but he always trusted in God. That is the reason he was able to tell in Psalms 27:10 “My father and mother may abandon me, but the lord will take care of me”. The Lord was always with David and that is the why God himself testified about David in Acts13:22 that ,’A man after my own heart”.
The collogue who went through this situation is a very humble God-fearing person; her husband is a Pastor and she too had the urge to spread the good news. She trusted in God, and within a few years God enabled her parents to realize their mistakes and accepted all their daughters back. What an amazing God we serve.
This sharing is not meant to give the wrong idea to you all, that we should not trust our parents, friends, and families, but it teaches and reminds us that in this world the most trustworthy person can sometimes let you down.
Due to selfishness, jealously or certain circumstances. During any tough time, we face, we should not take any decision hastily as we could regret it at the end. But trust God because He is an almighty God, He cares for us like a mother and loves us even more than anybody else. Even if your mother forsakes you, he will never leave you nor forsake you. Hold on to His promise in all situations. God bless you all.
