On his way to Calvary,

Jesus carried the heavy cross on his shoulders.

The weight of the cross was unbearable.

He still carried it, until the very end.

Unable to walk, He stumbled, and fell.

But he stood up again and carried it, all the way up to Calvary.

Why was the cross so heavy?

Why could Jesus not carry it?

The cross bore the burden of my sins.

It bore the burden of your sins.

It bore the burden of the sins of all mankind, past, present and future.

It bore the weight of my weaknesses, the weight of my sicknesses.

It bore the weight of all of mankind’s weaknesses and the weight of all their sicknesses.

That was why the cross was heavy.

It wasn’t just a piece of wood.

It bore the weight, the weight of you and me.

Jesus carried our sins, our weakness, our sickness up on the cross.

Stumbling and falling with that burden of the cross,

Finally when he reached there,

He nailed them all to set us free.

Free from our sins, free from our weaknesses, free from our sicknesses.

Now I know why the cross was heavy,

The burden of mankind was the cross, you are the cross, I am the cross.

Let us acknowledge this, let us believe this.

Whoever believes in this,

and whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life!
